Chris left school in 1952 and joined CCT as a probationary body maker. The probation lasted twelve months and followed by a visit to the Council House to sign his apprenticeship papers for another five years. He served most of his time at the Watery Lane Works. After he came out of the army, which took him away for two years, he went to work at Harnall Lane garage.
